About this project

The problem it solves

Today’s news is:

Centralized — A handful of institutions shape narratives, filter facts, and suppress voices.

Opaque — Readers can't easily trace the origin or funding of stories.

Passive — Audiences consume but don’t contribute meaning, support causes, or hold systems accountable.

Eroding trust — Misinformation and clickbait thrive in a web2 engagement economy.

There is no transparent, participatory layer in journalism where people can act, not just react. One top of that it has become overwhelming enough leading to people tuning it out to save their sanity.

The solution - Subline

  • A contextual news app powered by systems thinking (inspired by “Thinking in Systems” by Donella Meadows) + onchain signals.

  • Users explore timelines, historical background, key stakeholders, and feedback loops.

  • Signal your support for truth onchain — and see what your community is backing. (v2)

Challenges we ran into

One key challenge was integrating onchain functionality in a way that felt meaningful within a news-reading experience. I experimented with several models with the help of AI—context sharing, tipping, and onchain posting—before landing on a simple, intuitive tipping system tied to user context for version 1.
