As a developer with deep ties to India, I see immense potential in how decentralized technologies like Base can empower creators and innovators across the region. India is home to countless entrepreneurs, but many face barriers in accessing traditional crowdfunding platforms due to fees, location, or bureaucratic limitations. By leveraging Base, I want to provide a borderless platform that allows any creative or entrepreneur to bring their ideas to life without the constraints of centralized systems.

What challenges are you focusing on?

Challenge 1: Access to funding for small creators Many creators and innovators, particularly from underrepresented regions, find it difficult to raise funds for their projects due to high fees, geographic limitations, or platform biases on traditional crowdfunding sites.

Challenge 2: Lack of transparency in fundraising Backers often have concerns over the transparency of how funds are being used, with traditional crowdfunding platforms offering limited visibility into the financial progress of campaigns.

How does your submission address this challenge?

BaseCrowdfund addresses these challenges by providing an accessible and transparent platform for crowdfunding. Built on Base blockchain, it ensures:

Open access for all creators: Anyone can start a campaign, regardless of location or platform limitations, as long as they have access to the blockchain. This decentralization allows creators from India and beyond to access global supporters without high fees or middlemen.

Transparency and trust: Every transaction, from donations to fund withdrawals, is recorded on the blockchain. This creates an immutable, transparent history of how funds are raised and used, which can be publicly verified by backers at any time.

Low costs: By leveraging the Base blockchain, we reduce transaction fees and eliminate the need for centralized platforms that charge exorbitant fees for hosting crowdfunding campaigns.

Challenges we ran into

Technical Challenge: One of the main technical hurdles was integrating the smart contract functionality with the front-end in a smooth and user-friendly way. Managing blockchain transactions from a web interface required dealing with asynchronous calls, MetaMask integration, and gas fee estimation. Overcoming this required careful debugging, as well as optimizing the user experience so that non-technical users can easily interact with the blockchain through the interface.

Non-technical Challenge: Educating users about blockchain technology can be a challenge, especially in regions where the technology is still relatively new. To overcome this, I made sure to simplify the user interface, so the technical complexity is hidden, and users can focus on easily creating or supporting projects.
