BaseChain Gas Tracker

Real-time gas fee tracking to optimize transaction costs on the Base blockchain.

About this project

Why are you participating for Based India?

Blockchain technology is growing rapidly in India, and more people are becoming interested in decentralized solutions. However, transaction costs can sometimes be unpredictable, making blockchain interactions difficult for the average user. By participating in this hackathon, I aim to contribute to the Indian blockchain community by creating a tool that simplifies gas fee tracking, enabling users to transact on the Base blockchain more cost-effectively. As India continues to embrace blockchain, tools like this can make it easier for people to adopt decentralized solutions.

What challenges are you focusing on?

The challenge I’m addressing is the unpredictable nature of gas fees on blockchain networks. Many users in India, and globally, face issues with high or fluctuating transaction fees, which can discourage them from using decentralized applications (dApps) or completing transactions during high congestion periods. This problem especially affects smaller transactions where high fees make the process less efficient.

How does your submission address this challenge?

BaseChain Gas Tracker helps solve this problem by providing real-time gas price information to users, allowing them to time their transactions when gas prices are lower. This simple tool can be integrated into decentralized applications or used independently by users who want to monitor transaction fees before submitting a transaction. With this tracker, users can make informed decisions, potentially saving on costs and increasing their engagement with the Base blockchain.

Challenges we ran into

One of the technical challenges I encountered was ensuring seamless communication between the smart contract deployed on Base and the frontend application using the Ethers.js library. Initial problems included contract ABI mismatches and provider connection issues, but these were resolved by carefully matching the ABI in the backend code and configuring the provider correctly. Another hurdle was designing a simple and intuitive user interface for real-time gas price updates while keeping the project lightweight and easy to integrate into existing dApps.
